Millinery
This introductory Millinery course I created two completely hand constructed hats.
The first hat is the Edwardian Picture hat. This hat is constructed with buckram, sinamay, milliners wire, and crinoline bias binding.
The brim was covered in two layers of sheer striped fabric that was turned into a bias lattice effect by laying the grain horizontally and vertically. Then the crown was draped with china silk, the only available fabric in the color I desired. Finally the hat was decorated with a floral arrangement both on the top and under the brim.
The second hat was a blocked felt hat. I created a witch hat reusing three different existing hats to achieve the desired height. Each hat was dyed, and then wet blocked using steam to set the felt in the correct shape.
The three hats were then hand stitched together to create a accordion style witch hat, with fake patches and repairs to finish the scrappy DIY witch hat feel.
